Six Songs Without Words – Set Four
This set began life in Worcestershire in June 2018. Click on the links below to see the scores.
The first piece in this set is somewhat operatic in flavour and from its mournful opening builds to a substantial climax just before the end. The second piece began from a half-remembered echo of an Anglican chant but turned into another lyrical expressive song. Piece Three is a tango-infused piece, quite sassy in nature, its climax is marked “tempo di high kick”! The fast moving fourth piece has a hint of saltarello to it and this is followed by a piece with an echo of Elgar in miniaturist vein. The final piece of the set utilises Latin rhythms, though its flamboyance eventually melts away at the end.
