Mere Folly
Four Shakespeare settings.
These songs were written for the wonderful Diana Walkley whom I appointed as singing teacher at Dean Close. She gave several performances of them, including in America. Quite extraordinarily, they were first sung through one evening in Elgar’s former house, Craeg Lea, at Malvern.
1. Sigh no more, ladies (Much ado about nothing)
2. Blow, blow, thou winter wind (As you like it)
3. It was a lover and his lass (As you like it)
4. O mistress mine (Twelfth Night) – with link to page 1 of the score.
